Ayurveda states allergy as the result of aggravating the doshas (vata, pitta or kapha). Each individual of one of the doshas will be prone to the allergy related to it; eg. pitta-types will be prone to pitta-aggravating allergies.

During seasonal changes, weak immunity makes the body vulnerable to disease-causing germs. According to Ayurveda, Ojas is produced when the body receives best nutrition and is disease-free.

Enhancing Ojas protects your child against seasonal allergies. Here are a few ayurvedic tips on how to boost your child’s immunity and protect the Ojas. Follow them to protect your child against seasonal allergies.


Tulsi Infused Water

Drinking tulsi water works wonders to cure coughs, nasal congestion and respiratory disorders.It is also good for the eyes.

Boil 5-6 leaves of Tulsi in water. Drink after cooling the water and straining the leaves out. Tulsi’s antibiotic and germicidal properties help improve immunity.


Improve Immunity with Ginger & Turmeric

Add one teaspoon turmeric and a pinch of dried ginger powder to one glass of heated milk. Keep stirring till the components are thoroughly mixed. Remove lumps by straining undissolved ginger and turmeric.

Give your child one glass each day. The bioactive compounds in ginger and turmeric boost immunity. Ginger and turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties, and also aids digestion and improves heart health.


Spices to Enhance Immunity

Mild spices like turmeric, black pepper, cumin, cinnamon and cardamom not only add flavour but also assist in digestion. Fenugreek is also useful to curb sinus allergies and the common cold.

Agni Boosting Diet

Agni is the digestive fire which aids digestion, metabolism and influences Ojas. A strong agni is essential for a balanced Ojas.

Foods that are light and easy to digest are most ideal. Paneer, milk, whole grains, pulses, fresh fruits are foods that enhance Ojas.

Children are affected by stress, and a nurturing supportive environment can go a long way in helping them. When stressed, the body responds by releasing stress hormones which decrease immunity.

Spend time and also encourage your child to speak about their troubles. 10 minute deep breathing every morning will also relieve stress and boost immunity.


Improve Health with Sesame Oil

Helpful in balancing pitta dosha to improve digestion, sesame oil also improves strength, skin health, intelligence and power of digestion.

Regular Exercise and Sound Sleep

Regular exercise promotes good health, improves digestion and flushes toxins from the body. Ample sleep of 7-8 hours is also significant. Combined, this strengthens the immunity and the Ojas.
